Why do we need motivated employees? The answer is survival (Smith, 1994). Motivated employees are needed in our rapidly changing workplaces. Motivated employees help organizations survive. Motivated employees are more productive. To be effective, managers need to understand what motivates employees within the context of the roles they perform. Of all the functions a manager performs, motivating employees is arguably the most complex. This is due, in part, to the fact that what motivates employees changes constantly (Bowen & Radhakrishna, 1991). For example, research suggests that as employees' income increases, money becomes less of a motivator (Kovach, 1987). Also, as employees get older, interesting work becomes more of a motivator.

Multi-Pronged Approach to Maximize Success

Business coaching can improve a number of workplace functions. In order to determine the best path, we take the time to understand your company's goals and why you've set those goals. It's also important to evaluate your deficiencies so we can focus on strengthening them.

We take a unique approach to working with your employees to maximize their performance. First, we conduct a company performance workshop. After we address the entire group, we'll break into small groups and then work on the one-on-one level. This three-pronged method maximizes the effectiveness of the information. While many other coaches and speakers only address the entire group, we use a tiered approach that engages employees on multiple levels and pinpoints more opportunities for improvement. It's unrealistic to expect your employees to retain and implement all of the information they need in one large group discussion.

In the small group stage, employees work closely with each other to understand individual perspectives and attitudes toward business and life. Once employees understand one another's working styles, they can execute their tasks more efficiently and solve problems more effectively.

During the one-on-one sessions, we help each employee understand their fears, doubts, worries and issues at the professional and personal levels. This stage is crucial to the overall effectiveness of business coaching. Studies have shown that when employers help their employees grow personally, they become more productive on the job.

We see many employees who don't achieve their full potential because their thoughts, feelings and emotions (Vibes) are not aligned with their job. Most often, an employee's biggest hurdle to success is him or herself - and they don't even know it. Business coaching helps employees work through their negative perceptions and create a positive outlook. Ultimately, we can shift the mindset of the entire company.

Once we establish a positive, forward-thinking mindset, we observe employees in the workplace. The evaluation will provide us with the information to develop new programs, policies and/or procedures that will help companies deliver a positive and energetic vision to their employees, and thus, enhance the customer experience.

External vs. Internal Coaching

External coaching produces better results than internal coaching. That's according to an extensive global study commissioned by the American Management Association (AMA) and conducted by the Institute for Corporate Productivity.

Essentially, it goes back to your childhood. Your parents didn't know anything, but if "Uncle Charlie" said it was ok, then it was golden.
